Woodworking Tool Box for Kids
Woodworking a great hobby that can be shared with your children. If you children show and interest in the hobby at an early age, then it is a good idea to identify some relevant woodworking projects for them, that you can work on together.
In the video below Blair talks about the Tool Box that he has been building with his son, Trent. In selecting the tool box I think Blair has gone exactly the right way. Firstly he has chosen an item that will be owned by his son, and more importantly will be used by his son. He then goes on to leave the design decisions to Trent. This is really important, and it will have allowed Trent to learn how to think about the practicalities of what he needs from his tool box, and then to go on and convert that into a build-able design. This sort of creative thinking is a useful skill to have in the future when Trent tackles more complex woodworking projects.
It is also great that Blair and Trent took 8 months to build the tool box. Sure it could have been built a lot quicker than that, but that would have made it too much like a chore for the young boy. By taking this slower place, I am sure that Trent loved every minute he spent in the wood shop building his tool box.
Be sure to watch the video below. The tool box has some great desing features that you may want to include if you decide to follow Blair and Trent and build your own tool box together with your son.
I hope you like this idea, however if not there are plenty of other ideas for woodworking with kids.
