When you are undertaking a woodwork project, in addition to having the right tools and a worked through plan or template, you also need to make sure you are using the right type of wood.

 

There are many different types of wood to chose from, your job is to select the type that is right for the woodworking project that you are planning. If you are creating a tool or a baseball bat, you need something that will be strong. If you plan decorative carved elements you need a wood that will easy to shape and not splinter or leave rough edges. Alternatively if you are planning a decorative piece then you might want to select a wood with an attractive grain to enhance the appearance of your finished item.

 

It is recommended that if you are buying wood for an important project then you should take a bit of time to discuss your requirements with the staff at your lumber store. They should be able to give you some useful advice if you are unsure what is the best wood to use.
